GRAB your sacks and sleigh bells as the great dash for places in the most festive of fundraisers gets underway.

Organisers Saddleworth Round Table have gifted Dr Kershaw's Hospice an early Christmas present containing 50 spaces for their annual Santa Dash which kicks off the festive season on Uppermill High Street, on December 1.

Thanks to the community spirited group hospice supporters will get the opportunity to slip on a Santa suit and raise money for the care of patients at the Turf Lane hospice, in Royton.

“We’re delighted to gift 50 places on this year’s Santa Dash to supporters of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. The whole purpose of Saddleworth Round Table is to raise funds for local good causes with the Santa Dash being a great opportunity for organisations throughout the borough to benefit from the generosity of the community.”

Dr Kershaw’s community fundraiser, Lillie Winterbottom, said “This is a fantastic gift which will help of our supporters raise money for patient care at Christmas.

"It will also be a totally Santa cl-awesome way to kick start the seasonal festivities for all the participants and their families. We’re so grateful to the Saddleworth Round Table. Their continued support of the local people is inspiring."

The Santa Dash gets underway at 2.30pm, followed by The Big Light Switch On, Santa Parade and a firework display.

Dr Kershaw's provides specialist palliative care for adults with life-limiting illnesses in a peaceful and homely environment.

The Hospice requires £8,000 a day in order to continue providing care free of charge to patients.
