A MYSTERY buyer has bought the building which housed The Oldham Chronicle for £400,000.

The 1960s building in Union Street was the home to the newspaper until August 31, 2017, when it closed with the loss of 49 staff. The newspaper’s parent company, Hirst, Kidd and Rennie went into administration.

Administrators KPMG sold the four-storey building at auction, with the buyer understood to be a “regional property company”.

Stuart Cooper, director of auctioneers, Auction House North West, which held its sale at Bolton Wanderers’ University of Bolton Stadium, said told the media website Hold The Front Page: “There was a lot of interest and there were probably four or five bidders in the room for it. We had about 20 viewings, so it was quite a popular one.”
