Oldham’s Christmas Lights Switch-On

Sunday 18 November, 1pm to 6pm, FREE

GET ready for an “out-of-this-world” experience as Oldham’s Christmas lights are switched on at Parliament Square and Tommyfield Market. Meet TV favourites Tiny and Small from The Clangers in Parliament Square at intervals throughout the day (1pm, 2pm and 3pm). Then join them at Tommyfield Market from 5pm for the big switch-on show and be amazed by the dazzling space age LED robotic dancers from Cirque Bijou.

Watch Oldham Theatre Workshop’s other-worldly performance to mark the end of their 50th anniversary celebrations. A fantastic firework display will then finish the evening off with a bang.

STAND By Theatre group presents “The Room at the Top of the House” – a free workshop at Oldham Library today (Thursday, November 15) at 5pm.

It is based on a show about fear and the impact our decisions have on those we care about, told through mesmerising movement, poetic text and visual inventiveness.

Shopping Susie’s Kids Club

TARGETED at children aged four to 10, Shopping Suzie will be at the centre on Saturday (November 17) at intervals between 11am and 3pm. Join in the Kids Club for a free craft workshop, balloon modelling and face painting.

The Small Cinema presents 'Mary Poppins' (U)

At Oldham Gallery.

Get set for the new Mary Poppins movie by seeing the classic original. Tickets are £3 each and youngsters get a free goodie bag with a drink, popcorn and a treat, plus the chance to win the DVD to take it home in a prize. . Join in fun film-related arts and crafts in the foyer before the movie from noon to 2pm. The film runs for two hours 19 minutes.

Uppermill Library, High Street, St Chad’s

THERE are plenty of plaudits online for the facilities available at Uppermill Library. It is being hailed as having friendly, informative staff and has undergone a recent refit.

One user reports: “Been using the local library service in Uppermill since visiting seven years ago. Always found the staff helpful and informative. There is a good range of subjects on offer including DVD/audio/tech for hire. And events mid-week for families - Tuesdays - Babies Rhymetime, Wednesdays Toddler Time and Thursdays Saddleworth Writers Group.”
