OLYMPIC gold medallist Etienne Stott appeared at the reopening of the Aldi store on Chadderton Way this morning.

The Team GB canoeist, who won gold at London 2012, cut the ribbon to declare the store officially open at 8am with the help of store manager Lee Braid.

In anticipation of the forthcoming reopening, Etienne said: “I’m really looking forward to visiting Aldi Chadderton Way to welcome the store’s customers back through the doors.”

Lee added: “It has taken a huge team effort to get the store ready to reopen following a 10 week refurbishment. The team and I can’t wait to meet Etienne, and as a special welcome to our customers, he will be handing out 30 complimentary bags full of delicious fruit and vegetables from our Super 6 range.”

After greeting customers at the store, Etienne visited the children of Bare Trees Primary School, to lead an inspirational assembly where he will share some of the secrets of his canoeing success and encourage them to eat healthily.

Etienne presented the children with a donation of fresh fruit and vegetables from the new Aldi store to keep their energy levels topped up throughout the school day.
