DECEMBER 7: Opening launch of Oldham Parish Church's Christmas Tree Festival, at 7pm, which runs until December 16. Sixty decorated trees to browse and be inspired by, refreshments available through out the festival. (December8, 9.30am - 4pm; December 9, noon-4pm; December 10-14, 10am-4pm; December 15, 9.30am- 4pm; December 16, noon-3.30pm. Festival Ends with a Service of 9 Lessons and carols at 4pm.

DECEMBER 8: Crompton Stage Society present 'Cyrano de Bergerac' until December 15, 7.30pm, at Playhouse2, 2 Newtown Street, Shaw. Tickets from Interiors, 37 Market Street, Shaw or www.ticketsource.co.uk/playhouse2.

DECEMBER 8: St Gabriel's Church, Greenhill Road, Christmas Fair, 11am to 3pm. Santa's grotto, tombola, and a variety of stalls, including cafe. Entry is free.

DECEMBER 8: Salem Moravian Church, Lees Road, Oldham. Coffee Morning and Book, DVD and CD sale, 10.30am to 12.30pm. Traidcraft stall, bacon butties available. Free entry.

DECEMBER 8: Salem Moravian Chruch, Lees Road, Oldham. Tercentenary of the birth of John Cennick, an early minister of the Moravian Church working in the West Country and then Ireland. The street behind the church is Cennick Close, named after him.

DECEMBER 9: The Samantha Jones Trust Sunday Market, at Uppermill Civic Hall, Saddleworth, 10am to 3pm. Stall including food produce, new goods, crafts, nail bar and brow bar plus a cafe serving breakfast, lunches and refreshments in support of the local children’s cancer charity. Free admission and parking available.

DECEMBER 11: Saddleworth Floral Art present a floral demonstration by Kate Russell of Spital, Wirral at Friezland Church Hall, Greenfield, 7.30pm. Her title is Sparkle and Sprouts. All welcome, £6.

DECEMBER 11: Delph Methodist Church, Carol Concert, 7pm.

DECEMBER 13: Maggie's Festive Evening with Soul Inspiration Choir, at 7pm, at the Norman Stoller Building in the grounds of Royal Oldham Hospital. DECEMBER 15: St Thomas' Church hall, Moorside. Messy Church crafts and Christingle preparation, 10am to noon. Face painting and stories, plus some decorating making and other crafts.

DECEMBER 16: St Thomas' Church, Moorside, Christingle Service in aid of the Children's Society, 3pm to 4pm. Children will receive Christingle oranges prepared at the previous day's Messy Church.

DECEMBER 18: "It's not Rocket Science" Christmas Quiz at Springhead Liberal Club, 8.30pm, £3 per person including raffle and stand up bingo. On behalf of Dr Kershaws and Oldham Branch of the MS Society.

DECEMBER 23: Delph Methodist Church, no morning service, Carols by Candlelight, 6pm, led by Rev G Ridley, followed by coffee and mince pies. No morning service.

DECEMBER 23: St Thomas' Church, Moorside, 10.30am to 11.45am, Eucharist service includes the Nativity play performed by Sunday School children.

DECEMBER 23: St Thomas' Church, Moorside, service with readings by candlelight, 6.30pm to 8pm.
