THERE'S nothing more seasonal than the sound of brass and Oldham town centre played host to some of the best bands on the circuit on Saturday.

Oldham Council's Brass Monkeys event provided a musical backdrop for Christmas shoppers in the town centre with a mix of celebrated national outfits and local musicians blasting out festive notes.

Parliament Square and Oldham Parish Church provided the settings for the winter brass festival which has become an annual fixture in the borough's festive calendar.

The world famous Foden’s Band, which earlier this year appeared at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall in London, set the tone alongside the acclaimed Fairey Band.

Manchester newest funk brass ensemble, Twisted Tubes, kept the crowds entertained with their unique take on the musical tradition alongside Oldham Music Service and a selection of performers from the local brass band scene including Dobcross Brass Monkeys and Tame Valley Brass.

The weekend also saw the launch of the parish church Christmas Tree Festival which features over 60 decorated trees to admire and inspires which runs until Saturday (December 16).
