THE family of an Oldham teenager killed in a collision last month will say their final farewells to their "blue-eyed golden boy" on Friday.

The funeral of promising 17-year-old boxer, Trent Warburton will be held at St Patrick's Church, in Union Street West, at 11.45am, with family and friend invited to gather at the home of his mum, Janine Cave, at 11.30am.

It will be followed by a service at Greenacres Cemetery with a gathering planned at The Candlelight Club.

The family have asked for those attending to wear "red ties or something red" as a symbol of love.

Trent, described as an extremely talented "up-and-coming champ" who trained at Team Greaves boxing gym, lost his life after being hit by a car on Oldham Road, near junction 22 of the M60 on November 10 as he and his 19-year-old cousin - who suffered serious injuries - cycled home.

He died just short of his 18th birthday.

A 27-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drink driving and later bailed pending further enquiries.

Trent's trainer and mentor Marvin Greaves launched a crowd-funding appeal to help the family pay for his funeral which now stands at over £3,700.

Earlier this month Oldham boxer Anthony Crolla - who paid tribute to the teenager live on TV following his win against Daud Yordan at Manchester Arena on November 11 - attended a boxing show in memory of Trent and spent time with his grieving family.

A painting of Trent has now been installed at the Bourne Street venue, in Hollinwood, as a permanent memorial to the 17-year-old who Marvin described as "a great talent in the boxing game".

His death shook the community with his heartbroken dad Tez saying: “He was a polite, well respected young man who has touched the lives of many people in Oldham and the love we have felt from the Oldham community has been very heart warming.

“We have to live with this loss for the rest of our lives. It’s left us all as a family truly devastated and our lives will never be the same again."
