A 'CREW' of dads, grandads and enthusiastic amateur street dancers are out to prove men DO dance - with style!

Ten brave volunteers have stepped up to a challenge laid down by the borough's championship-winning Fierce Dance to help raise cash for their chosen charities Andy's Man Club Oldham and Dr Kershaw's Hospice 'Keira's Wishes' fund.

The spectacle was the brainchild of Fierce business manager Steven Hamilton in a bid to pull his dancing community together to raise money for local causes as well as involve the academy's parents, who already have an under 10s mums' dance team which this year won a world championship title.

One of the first to be 'persuaded' to take part was the granddad of one of their dancers, Keira Arnold, who set up her wish fund at Dr Kershaw's in memory of her dad, Steven, who was cared for by the hospice team before he passed away when she was just four years old.

Mark Smith roped in four friends - Dave Thomas, Jeff Elliott, David Murgatroyd and Derek Harvey - to form 'Chips and Groovy' and they'll be battling it out against 'The So Soft Crew', involving Fierce Dance dad and AMC supporter Paul Schofield and pals Steven Millard, Danny Potaman, Rick Bibey and Darren Stone.

With street logos, costumes and specially devised music they're almost ready to strut their stuff.

They've spent weeks perfecting their moves thanks to the superior choreography talents of Fierce owner Jen Lynch.

But Steven said despite Jen's dance prowess, which has seen her win north west, British, European and world titles this year, she's had to step up her game to whip them into shape in time.

Steven said: "She has had her work cut out for her with these 10 men who have never danced before.

"She teaches them once a week and they are practicing tirelessly at home.

"These men are heroes as they are taking themselves massively out of their comfort zone in order to raise money for a good cause. I have seen both of these crews in action and I honestly couldn’t pick a winner. They are both fantastic.

"We're hoping to raise at least £1,000 for each charity on the night and I've added a couple of surprises into the routines at the end so it's set to be a spectacle to behold!"

The audience will be invited to vote for their favourite act in return for a donation and Oldham Mayor, Councillor Javid Iqbal, will be presenting the trophy to the winning crew.
