POLICE arrested a man caught with a £200 stash of Twirl chocolate bars as he tried to make a dash from a shop in Hollins Road yesterday.

Officers from Tameside were on their way with guests to their force's Community Christmas dinner when they spotted the suspect.

According to GMP Tameside North a PCSO gave chase and detained the man and recovered the bag of goodies - believed to be well over 300 chocolate bars - as well as a kitchen knife.

It was also discovered he was wanted for failing to appear at court.

They say Oldham officers then took over, "allowing the Ashton Hurst team to get the guests to the Christmas dinner on time"!
