Award-winning Oldham firm to back destitute charity

It is a departure from tradition as the Oldham firm switches its focus from sending its suppliers gifts to the local good cause.

LLK has been busy gathering a stockpile of vital supplies such as fruit juice, rice and clothing which will be donated to the Destitution Food Project.

Its suppliers will receive a Christmas card which explains that their gift is the joy of knowing that, thanks to them, someone less fortunate will not be going hungry this winter.

Earlier this year, LLK became affiliated with the local organisation Action Oldham which helps to support lesser-known charities in the area, such as Oldham Unity’s Destitution Food Project, secure grants and donations from local businesses so they can continue their good work.

The Destitution Food Project is a voluntary organisation in partnership with Oldham Baptist Church and the Red Cross which has been providing asylum seekers in crisis with vital provisions such as food, clothes and toiletries for over fifteen years.

They also offer a safe, welcoming space to attend at least once a week and advice and support on a range of issues faced by those fleeing their country of origin. This organisation is small in scale and its resources are limited, therefore it is entirely dependent on the generous donations of contributors such as LLK to continue its important work in the community.

Steve Roman, a representative for Oldham Unity, said: “We are very grateful to Linda Lewis and her generous staff. The donation of staple food items will help service users who depend on us for their weekly food. They are destitute because they are not eligible for any assistance from the government.”

Grace Carr, LLK’s marketing executive, said: “Giving back to local charities is something that is extremely important to us at LLK and giving back at Christmas time is extremely important.”
