Oldham Library is set to host its annual Healthy New Year Festival to help you kick off 2019 with a fit and fresh start.

The week-long showcase of events is due to take place between January 14 and 19 including free exercise classes, health activities - ranging from a live music mood-boosting Bumps and Babies Rhyme Time to the Ageing Well Fun and Games event – plus tips and advice on health and wellbeing from on-hand experts.

Each day will focus on a different theme and there will be information stalls and a range of hands-on activities throughout the week.

January 14 will be all about weight loss and improving your wellbeing using simple and sustainable techniques.

January 15 is aimed at over 60s with tailored advice on the activities that suit to your activity levels.

Whether you’re a runner, walker or couch sitter, Wednesday’s ‘Get Moving Day’ is aimed at inspiring you to get up, and get out of the house and help strengthen your new year’s resolution to get fitter in 2019.

On Thursday, January 17 the library will host a day focused on holistic health where you can explore the bigger picture of how, why and when to improve weight and wellbeing.

A healthy lifestyle starts early in life, which is why on the penultimate day of the festival (Friday) it’s all about the little ones. Come along for a day of activities for bumps, babies, toddlers and new parents/guardians.

The final day is for sharing with your family and bonding over exercise. Enjoy activities that get the whole family moving and start your healthy lifestyle journey together.

Cllr Paul Jacques, cabinet member for education and culture, said: “Here in Oldham we want everyone to live a long and healthy life and we’re constantly working with our partners and community to help improve the overall health and wellbeing of the borough.

“Exercise is important, not just to keep our hearts healthy and improve bones and joints, but it can also benefit mental health and wellbeing.

“This event is perfect for anyone who wants to make a change to their exercise routine, or just needs some advice on losing a few pounds.

“I encourage everyone to attend this free event and see what’s on offer.”

More information about the itinerary for festival will be announced in the new year.
