A HISTORIC mill dominating the Oldham skyline, but plagued trespass and vandalism, looks set to be demolished to make way for residential development.
Plans to bulldoze grade II-listed Hartford Mill go before Oldham Council’s planning committee next Wednesday (January 16).
The cotton spinning mill was built in 1907 and extended in the 1920s. It has been empty since 1991 when the previous owner Littlewoods, which used the building as a mail order depot, left.
Demolition of the mill will be considered alongside an outline planning application for development with all detailed matters reserved for subsequent approval.
Planning officers have recommended approval of the plan subject to agreement ensuring appropriate contributions towards affordable housing and public open space.
