THE manager of Oldham Foodbank reckons the charity has become the target of a vendetta after its van was stolen while picking up food from the Royal Oldham Hospital.

The theft of the three-year Ford Transit which carried the foodbank logo on its bodywork follows just two weeks after its headquarters at the Three Crowns Centre in Manchester Street was ransacked.

In the raid a computer hard-drive containing password-protected client information and three tablets were stolen along with £200 cash.

After The Oldham Times published news of the raid, thousands of pounds flooded in to the charity from across the globe from far away locations like the USA, Switzerland and Malta.

The cash will help the foodbank step up security at the centre, but the theft of the van today has dealt volunteers a yet another blow.

Manager Lisa Leunig told The Oldham Times: “I definitely think we are being targeted for some reason. Someone seems to have it in for us.”

The charity’s logistics manager Paul Leach pulled up outside the hospital today to do a food pick up.

Lisa went on: “He was only in the building 15 minutes and when he came out the van had gone.

“It absolutely sickening. Without the van we can’t make collections of much-needed food for the families who need us.”

Anyone who sees the van is asked to contact the foodbank or the police.
