SOME 140 senior citizens celebrated Christmas in grand style at their annual lunch in Saddleworth.

The day at the White Hart Lydgate began with a glass of sherry to accompany Mossley Hollins Brass Band and Christmas carols from youth organisation Mahdlo.

The guests enjoyed a four-course lunch and compere and DJ Alan Jones brought the day to a close with a game of bingo, a raffle and a sing song.

Myra Shields, accompanied by her two daughters, celebrated her 90th birthday at the event where the oldest guest was 99 years old.

Richard Foster, chair of Saddleworth Round Table, said: “It was a lovely day and it was great to see the smiles on our guests faces. Talking to a number of them, it was fantastic to hear how much they enjoyed the day.

“I’d like to thank all our sponsors and those who donated some great raffle prizes for the party.

“A huge thanks to Dave MacDougall and his partner Jane Harvey and her daughter Leah, who helped organise today’s party. We could not have done all this without your time and effort.”
