TODAY we take a journey back in time at an old railway station.
Wilpshire Station, the second halt out of Blackburn on the Hellifield line, was originally named Ribchester - being intended not only to serve Wilpshire, but also the Ribble Valley village some four miles distant from the track.
The station, pictured in the Lancashire Telegraph archives, which also had a freight yard, closed in 1964, two years after the Beeching axe removed passenger services from the line.
Today, the Ramsgreave and Wilpshire railway station sits 400 yards south of the original Wilpshire station. which served the Ribble Valley line.
When the line was re opened in 1994 a new site had to be found, due to the construction of houses which blocked access to the old station. The platforms which served as the old Wilpshire Station can still be seen.
