AMAZING mum Lisa Lane and her little boy will be making a heart-rending journey to support Dr Kershaw's in tribute to their very own Superman.

Dave Lane was just 43 when he died from a brain tumour while his wife Lisa was pregnant with their first child, Davey.

They were dealt the devastating blow of the return of Dave's cancer - a grade 4 brain tumour, glioblastoma - on Father's Day and he passed away after spending just four days at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in December 2012 .

Little Davey was born the following year on March 1, St David's Day.

Ever since the pair have taken part in the Hospice to Hospice walk in memory of their superhero dad and husband with baby Davey having the honour of being the event's youngest participant in 2013 as he was wheeled round at just six week's old dressed as a tiny Superman!

This year they'll be taking part in their seventh Hospice to Hospice walk to raise money for Dr Kershaw's on April 28 on a circular route which takes in both the Turf Lane hospice, in Royton, and neighbouring Springhill Hospice, in Rochdale.

Lisa said: “My husband was able to die in peace and with dignity with his family and friends around. He had 44 visitors over the time he was at the hospice.

“Having the doctors and nurses there to help make difficult decisions was a Godsend for me - I finally felt able to be his wife rather than his carer.”

Both from Middleton, Dave and Lisa met in 2006 and were married at St Leonard’s Church in August 2011.

“Dave was my superman, I was his Lisa Lane. We always wear our Superman shirts on the walk, it’s a lovely tradition. We’ve got teddy bears made up of Dave’s old clothes, much of which are Superman themed.”

“It gets easier, but you don’t ever get over it. Your world gets bigger and you learn to fill that void left behind.”

“We keep Dave’s memory alive in everything we do, from talking about his favourite food to taking part in the Hospice to Hospice walk.”

This year their 'Super Group' will be joined by a host of their Superman supporters with around 16 of them taking part in the 13th annual Hospice to Hospice Walk which this year starts from Heyside Cricket Club due to work commencing on the £2.1m new build.

In 2018 over 500 walkers took part in this fantastic event and this year sees the addition of a special registration form - for dogs!

All participating four-legged friends will receive a drawstring bag, canine water bottle and poop bag dispenser with bags.

Doggie bandanas will also be on sale.

Pre-registration costs £7 per person and £5 for dogs.

Lisa Lane and Superman son, Davey, take on Hospice to Hospice Walk in memory of dad

Raising money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, the pair are embarking on their 7th Hospice to Hospice walk in memory of Dave Lane who passed away while Lisa was pregnant.

Dave Lane, Lisa’s husband, was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour, glioblastoma, which returned in 2012 – they found out on Father’s Day the same year that Lisa was pregnant with Davey.

Both from Middleton, the pair met back in 2006 and got married at St Leonard’s Church in August 2011.

Dave, who was 43, passed away on 1st December after spending just four days at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, Lisa recalls: “My husband was able to die in peace and with dignity with his family and friends around - he had 44 visitors over the time he was at the Hospice.

“Having the doctors and nurses there to help make difficult decisions was a Godsend for me – I finally felt able to be his wife rather than his carer.”

A touching tribute to his late father, Davey was born, on 1st March, also known as St David’s Day.

5-year-old Davey’s first Hospice to Hospice walk was when he was just 6 weeks, our youngest participant ever back in 2013. And last year saw the first time he walked (and scootered) around the 7.25 mile route, dressed in the famous group attire, Superman.

Lisa said: “Dave was my superman, I was his Lisa Lane! We always wear our Superman shirts to the walk, it’s a lovely tradition. We’ve got teddy bears made up of Dave’s old clothes, much of which are Superman themed!”

Six years on, Lisa said: “It gets easier, you don’t ever get over, your world gets bigger and you learn to fill that void left behind.”

“We keep Dave’s memory alive in everything we do, from talking about his favourite food to taking part in the Hospice to Hospice walk.”

A group of around 16 are set to take on the 13th annual Hospice to Hospice Walk with Lisa and Davey, this year starting from Heyside Cricket Club due to work commencing on the £2.1m new build.

In 2018, the Hospice to Hospice walk with Springhill had over 500 walkers, and this year sees the addition of a special registration form…for dogs! Your four-legged friend will receive a drawstring bag, canine water bottle and poop bag dispenser with bags. Doggie bandanas will also be on sale.
