DOBCROSS Band and Social Club has been awarded the Club of the Year 2019 accolade by Rochdale, Oldham and Bury Branch (ROB) of the Campaign for Real Ale.

It will now go forward into the Greater Manchester Regional competition, the winner of which will in turn enter the National Competition with the ultimate National Club of the Year winner being announced in February/March 2020.

Peter Alexander, branch chairman of the ROB Branch said: " This well-deserved award is in no small measure due to the efforts of long-term Club Steward John Holden.

“Thirty-five years after John’s arrival, the club is thriving. Free of debt and free of tie, it now serves some of the finest quality ales in the Greater Manchester area.

“John’s efforts were formally recognised last year as Dobcross Band and Social Club was named ROB CAMRA Club of the Year in 2018 and I am not at all surprised that it has retained the title this year too.

“Dobcross Band and Social Club is an example to all in the club trade, showing that well-chosen and presented real ale is good for a club and good for members. Others please copy."
