ANGRY neighbours say a gang of youths has been ‘terrorising’ their estate.

One man said between 15 and 20 young people have been climbing on roofs, throwing things at people's house and intimidating people in Padgate Place in Burnley, for several weeks.

The 33-year-old, whose family lives on the estate, said a vulnerable woman had something thrown through her window last week and she was left terrified.

The father said he has tried to call the police on several occasions but feels not enough is being done to deter the youths from coming back.

He said: “The group contains young people between 14 and 18.

“There’s lots of them and they come here and try to cause strife between the children that live on this estate.

“I helped the woman who had her window smashed and by putting a board over to make sure it was safe.

“It’s becoming too much. They’re terrorising the area and the police aren’t doing enough.

“I reported the window incident to the police and nothing has been done.

“Officers don’t come out to speak to them so they’ve got nothing to fear.”

Alex Ricketts, who lives on the estate, said she was frustrated by what has happened.

She said: “We’ve got a nice community here and we just want all get along fine.

“These kids are spoiling it for everyone and upsetting people.

“There’s been incidents of kids being threatened while out playing and minding their own business.

“Something needs to be done before someone gets really hurt.”

Chelsea Farquhar, who has lived in Padgate Place for a year, said she has never had an issue with the group.

She said: “They’re just bored. There’s nothing for them to do around here so they start trying to entertain themselves.

“They show you respect if they get respect.

“I’ve not had any issues with them.

“If there was more things like youth centres and parks then the kids would have somewhere to go.”

Cllr Marcus Johnstone, who represents the area on Burnley Council, said: “I would urge these residents to speak to their housing association."

Police were contacted for a comment.
