HEAVY rain brought flooding and disruption to roads across Saddleworth at the weekend.
Five inches of rain fell over the Pennines and Saturday with three quarters of a month's rain falling in just 24 hours. Met Office data sites in the North West recorded more than twice the expected rain for the whole month of March.
Experts say that although the water table continued to rise over the weekend, the weather is now calming down.
A spokesman for the Met Office said that the rain was needed after a very dry summer and relatively dry winter - "but not all in one day".
