A BOLTON cinema wants to support mums with its parent and baby screenings.

Amber Karim, who works at the Light Cinema in The Market Place knows how hard it can be as a new mum and how isolating it can be.

Spurred on by the death of Tiffany Stevens and her daughters, Casey, three, and Darcey, one, in Little Lever, Miss Karim hopes new parents will find community and support at the screenings.

The mum-of-two said: “It’s extremely important for mums to get out. When you’re at home alone you miss adult conversation. When you feel low and your hormones are everywhere it’s more of an effort to admit you need help.”

The parent and baby screenings have been running weekly for two years and Miss Karim wants to let more people know about them.

Only adults with babies are allowed in the showings and Miss Karim says she has heard a lot of mums tell her they made themselves leave the house but were glad they did.

She said: “It’s easy to sit in your pyjamas but it builds up to feeling isolated.”

Miss Karim hopes the screenings might help battle post-natal depression in some cases or give mums a chance to find support.

Parent and baby screenings are shown with the lights on and the volume at a lower level.

They are every Wednesday morning and cost £5, including a cup of tea or coffee and access to the green room after.

Today’s screening is of the blockbuster Captain Marvel at 10.30am, next week's will be Five Feet Apart at 11am.

The cinema also runs dementia-friendly and autism-friendly screenings of movies.
