A HIGH school is hoping to reopen tomorrow after a power cut caused it to close.

Phil Hart, head of Westhoughton High School, said engineers from Electricity North West had visited the school today after an electrical fault caused power failures.

It is one of a number of occasions in recent months that the school has had to be shut because of electrical problems and engineers have highlighted a "significant underground fault" affecting supply to the site.

Mr Hart said: "It's immensely frustrating because of the impact it has on our community, our families and our learners. We will get it back as soon as we can and we will let families know what's happening. We're hoping to open in the morning.

"The reason we can't have students on site is because of the fire alarms. It's a health and safety issue because they don't have power."

Westhoughton Community Leisure Centre, which is on the same site as the school, is also closed.
