A MINI mountain of fire extinguishers blighted a countryside gateway to Saddleworth.
In all, 1,077 bright red metal canisters were dumped next to a landmark transmitter at Windy Hill near junction 22 on the M62 motorway at the Denshaw border.
The site is under Rochdale Council’s jurisdiction and Cllr Neil Emmott, cabinet member for environment, said: “We have received a report of a number of fire extinguishers being dumped on Windy Hill.
“We investigate all complaints of fly-tipping and won’t hesitate to take action against those responsible.
“Anyone who has any information about fly-tippingis urged to report it at: rochdale.gov.uk/flytipping or by calling 0300 303 8884. All information received will be kept in the strictest confidence.”
The fire extinguishers were removed and several mattresses dumped at the site mysteriously vanished.
Saddleworth was hit by a rash of fly tipping over the weekend with angry locals taking to social media posting pictures and venting their frustration.
And Oldham Council urged people to report fly tipping to the council’s website and promised all incidents are investigated.
To help the council clear the waste as quickly, post the location of the waste, a description of it e.g. is it a fridge, a pile of bags or dumped rubbish and any information you may have about how the waste got there.
