EAST Lancashire has enjoyed a spell of warm weather over the last week - but forecasters say temperatures are set to plunge.

Last week saw temperatures as high as 13 degrees celsius and plenty of sunshine but the weather is expected to get much colder from Tuesday.

And there could even be some snow on higher ground with temperatures dropping to one degrees celsius.

Met Office forecasters are predicting rain, hail, sleet and overnight frost across the region over the next few days.

Monday will see spells of sunshine along with heavy showers. The temperature could reach 12 degrees celsius.

But from Tuesday to Thursday, temperatures will drop to lows of one degrees celsius, before the weather becomes more settled and warmer on Friday and into the weekend.

A Met Office forecast reads: "It will be generally colder than of late, with overnight frost possible. Rain will clear to showers on Tuesday, with hail, sleet and some hill snow likely."
