MOTORISTS are set to be hit by further disruption on a key town centre route as work to replace a century-old gas pipe enters its final phase.
Temporary traffic lights are set to be put in place as engineers from gas firm Cadent begin work on Halliwell Road from Monday, April 29.
The work will take place on a 30m section of road between the roundabout for Brownlow Way and the junction for Wolfenden Street.
It is part of a programme to replace a 110-year-old cast iron pipe which has been supplying gas to thousands of Bolton homes.
This is expected to be completed by Friday, May 5, after around 17 weeks of roadworks.
Work on this scheme has seen engineers close several junctions which connect smaller streets to Halliwell Road.
The last of these closures, on Grove Street, Eskrick Street and Raglan Street will be removed when the next phase of work begins.
Temporary traffic lights on the A-road will also be removed between the junctions for Eskrick Street and Gladstone Road.
