AN "iconic" pub is getting a full makeover, bringing it back to its historic glory.

The Bridge Inn has been hailed as a landmark in Horwich for decades. Now under new ownership, the pub is being restored and renovated for the community.

The three storey pub went on the hunt for a new owner earlier this year and was up for grabs for £250,000, advertised as a mainstay on the Horwich high street.

The new owners, who have a few small pubs in the area in their roster of properties, are looking forward to giving the pub a new look and making it "a great asset for the community".

The new owners said: "It's such an important landmark, a lot of the fixtures are very old.

"We want to keep as much of the old fixtures as we can."

The new owners say that some of the tiling even dates all the way back to 1904.

Among the renovations included with be those of the function room and bar — the rooms will be modernised and a brand new menu.

One of the new owners said: "We have not decided on the menu yet, but there will be food available. We'll have a good range of ales and guest ales."

Perhaps most notably, the top floor will be transformed into a new hotel, featuring nine en-suite bedrooms.

The owner said: "The Horwich area hasn't got [anywhere to stay] really. We're going to have nice touches, nice bed linens, all for good value.

"Horwich needs something, especially for cyclists, walkers and travelling businessmen, people who are coming for functions.

"We want to give a great asset to the community. I look at it like the community's pub."

The premises also boasts one of Bolton's bowling greens, frequented in the summer months.

Horwich town councillor Stephen Rock commented that the pub as one of the most "iconic" buildings in the town and is excited to see its fresh look.

The new owners are currently expecting the works to take place over the next 12 to 15 weeks.

Not only are the new owners bringing a new design, they will also be bringing jobs with the re-opening.
