IT seems as though we can’t resist a good pie. When we asked you to suggest their favourite pie shop in East Lancashire we should have known that the response would be overwhelming.

From meat and potato pies to traditional Lancashire favourites such as butter pies, it seems as though we are almost spoilt for choice when it comes to independent pie makers.

As with all of our five of the best features, this is not a definitive list, but merely represents those establishments which have a lot of loyal fans.

It may well be that we have missed your favourite. If that’s the case drop us a line and let us know.

Cottage Bakery, Crawshawbooth

This family run establishment got lots of love from readers online who praised the friendly service and the quality of pies available. In the age of mass produced pies, the bakery’s old fashioned approach has won it a legion of loyal fans. The cheese and onion pie appears to be a particular favourite among readers and if you’re in the mood for something sweet, the traditional custards clearly hit the spot with many of you.

Leavers, Blackburn

The overwhelming favourite among the majority of our online army who got in touch, this shop opposite Ewood Park is a must visit for many pie lovers. The steak and meat and potato pies are particular favourites although there is a wide selection usually available on a daily basis.

Roy Porter’s Butchers, Chatburn

Situated in one of the most distinctive premises in the Ribble Valley, the butcher’s made headlines when DJ Chris Evans named it the home of Britain’s best pork pie a couple of years ago. Cissy Green’s, Haslingden

The traditional meat pie is a particular favourite and recently the bakery made the headlines by launching a breakfast pie, basically a full English in a pastry case!

Haffner’s Pies, Burnley
