SCHOOLCHILDREN mucked in to help with a newly created "pocket park".

The park, containing native wildflowers, was created at Lees Street, Shaw, by charity group Groundwork.

The team were aided by pupils from East Crompton St James Primary School as they planted flowers in raised beds on Thursday, July 4.

The project was funded by Shaw and Crompton councillors and Whitehall's Pocket Parks Plus scheme.

The Oldham Times:

Shaw Cllr Howard Sykes said: “This is an excellent example of Parish and Borough councillors working together to benefit local residents.

"Using Groundwork we bid for some grant funding and then match funded it locally.

"We now have a much-improved pocket park for local residents and have smartened up a very visible area of Shaw that many people will benefit from."
