DARE you take up this challenge?

The biggest and scariest ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach towers over the Northern skyline as the UK’s tallest rollercoaster and regularly resounds to the shrieks and screams of holidaymakers enjoying the daredevil fun.

Now, adventurers are being offered the chance to WALK The Big One in Blackpool.

It's all in a good cause as part of fundraising events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Children Today charity.

And it is a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the famous rollercoaster.

The Chester-based national charity buys individual specialised equipment for children and young people with disabilities.

Several families in the Bolton and Bury areas have already benefited from its work and Children Today has a busy shop in Churchgate, Bolton.

Now, the charity wants to raise as much as possible to mark the organisation’s special milestone. And has invited local people to walk.

The Big One as one of this year’s programme highlights.

Six lucky local people will join an escorted group walking the lift hill to the dizzying summit of 235 feet over the famous Blackpool Pleasure Beach and with stunning views right across the region.

Those taking part in the 90-minute experience will wear harnesses and protective clothing. The registration fee is £25 and suggested sponsorship is £250.

As regional fundraiser for the charity Bolton-based Elizabeth Oakes explained: “It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy this fabulous rollercoaster from a different perspective.

“It’s a great challenge but also terrific fun. And you’ll be able to say afterwards that you’ve hiked The Big One!”
