A MAN is in hospital with stab wounds to his head and back after an alleged fight in Tameside.

The man, in his 40s, is believed to have been involved in an altercation with another man at around noon today (Thursday).

Police were called to Darnton Road in Stalybridge after reports that the fight had escalated and also found a woman in her 30s with minor injuries to her legs and arms.

Both injured parties were taken to hospital.

A Volkswagen Beetle drove away from the scene shortly after the stabbing and police are actively seeking the male driver of the car.

Chief Inspector Jane Butler, said: “Considering the circumstances, we believe that this is an isolated incident and there’s no further concern for people in the local area.

“As the incident happened in broad daylight, we’re confident that people would have witnessed what had happened so I’d encourage them to contact our investigation team directly with any information that they have.

“Enquiries into the incident and the circumstances surrounding it will continue throughout the day, including at the scene but please, if you saw something, let us know.”
