CO-OP Funeralcare and shops in St Helens have donated more than £5,500 to three worthwhile charities, helping the homeless, disadvantaged and celebrating our history.

The branches in St Helens and Prescot have done this by donating a percentage of their profits since November 2018.

To date £2,030 has been raised for Teardrops Supporting the Homeless, on Crab Street, a charity which support the homeless; raised raised £1,698 for Vee's Place Community Support Centre, in Prescot, a group that provides social and leisure activities to disadvantaged groups and £1,817 to Rainhill Trials Commemoration Group, a charity which helps ensure that the history of Rainhill as the birthplace of the railway is celebrated.

The Co-op's nationwide scheme commits to 1% of all sales, including branded products, carrier bags, and wider services within the group, being donated to local causes.

Yvonne Raynard-Williams, funeral arranger at Prescot and St Helens Funeralcare, said: “It’s an absolute honour to be able to support all of our groups, which have been voted for by our members.

"Each one is hugely important within the community and their work is nothing short of outstanding.

"We’re really passionate about supporting local organisations in the area and will continue to support a range of charities throughout the year.”

Customers and service users can go online to see the causes their local Co-op is supporting and choose which charity they want their money to go towards.
