VILLAGERS can be seen celebrating the end of the Boer War in this early 20th century picture.
Dating back to 1903, the image dug out from the Lancashire Telegraph's archives, shows people in Pendleton marking the end of the war.
They are somewhat late as the South African conflict had ended in May the previous year.
The group, gathered outside the Swan with Two Necks, included at least four generations of villagers.
The bowler-hatted man at the far right is believed to be wearing a medal awarded in the Crimean War of 50 years before.
While the young boy in front of him is thought to be wearing his father's Boer War medal.
The pub's licensee, William Stratton, sold the hostelry shortly after this picture was taken.
