MAGGIE’S Oldham, the charity based in the grounds of the Royal Oldham Hospital, is looking for people to join "Team Maggie’s" at the Rochdale Half, 10k and Fun Run 2019.

Liane is running the Half Marathon on the day for a charity, which provides free practical and emotional support for people living with cancer, and their families and friends, close to her heart.

She said: "Everyone dreads hearing that someone they know has cancer.

"I found out a family member had it and it cruelly took him away from us.

"Then, I found out it has affected two more people, my Auntie and a dear friend, so I decided I would do something important.

"Maggie's Oldham helped my Auntie in her time of need. Maggie's supports not just one person, but family and friends too, everyone needs help because we all need to understand. I am running to show my support and raise much needed funds. Together we can beat cancer". (

Runners will be gathering on Sunday, October 6 to take part in the event. Beginning at the historic Rochdale Town Hall, the scenic routes will take participants through pleasant cycleways and the Rochdale Canal, before looping back to the Esplanade to the finish line.

The Half Marathon also includes a jaunt around the picturesque Hollingworth Lake.

Tom Hall, centre fundraising organiser at Maggie’s Oldham, said: “As we receive no government or NHS funding, events like the Rochdale 10k are vital for our centre as they help us to raise funds and awareness of Maggie’s, meaning that we’re able to continue to provide our services for anyone affected by cancer.

"We are looking for runners of any ability to join our team for what will be a fantastic day.”

There will also be a cheering squad present on the day and post-race drinks at The Medicine Tap, next to the finish line. More information is available by calling Tom on 0161 989 0553.

Built in the grounds of the Royal Oldham Hospital, Maggie’s Oldham is a warm and welcoming place, with qualified professionals on hand to offer an evidence-based core programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.

Maggie’s Oldham relies on voluntary donations to support and grow its network of Centres and to develop its unique, high quality programme of support. The charity’s aim is to make the biggest difference possible to people living with cancer and their family and friends.
