MOSSLEY-based commercial and domestic upholsterer Andrew Lees Upholstery has supplied a range of upholstered seating and fittings for a bar, dining areas, desks and panelled lifts at a new luxury hotel in Manchester city centre.

The firm supplied the upholstered items for the new Dakota Hotel in Ducie Street, near Manchester Piccadilly station. The hotel recently opened and a dark, rich colour palette is used in the interior design.

Andrew Lees was a subcontractor for specialist joiners and bar fitters Abrahams & Carlisle, based in Bradford, who have fitted-out other Dakota hotels including in Glasgow and Leeds.

Products made by the company for the new Manchester Dakota include seating for the bar, grill and dining areas. Coverings include antique-style distressed leather, grey velvet and brown faux crocodile skin. Leather and velvet upholstery have been used on curved and straight fixed seating while faux crocodile skin upholstered panels are featured on the hotel’s reception desk area, concierge desks and customer lifts.

Founder and director Andrew Lees said: “This was a significant contract in volume and variety which included around 60 metres of upholstered seating manufactured and fitted by us on-site at the hotel. The Dakota in Manchester is a stylish new hotel and we were delighted to be involved in this development, which is a great addition to the city’s hotel and restaurant offering.

“We have a long-standing relationship with Abrahams & Carlisle and have worked on various contracts for them. They supplied the joinery for the hotel furniture and we then upholstered on-site.”

Andrew added: “We have completed a number of significant upholstery contracts in Manchester recently. These include upholstered office furniture for the online holiday company On The Beach. We supplied a range of upholstered office seating, cushions and panels for meeting pods and work stations for the company’s technology centre in central Manchester and its customer service centre in Stockport.

“Overall, we are seeing a rise in larger contracts for hotel, restaurant, bar and office upholstered furniture as we extend our own manufacturing base in Mossley. There, we are redeveloping a neighbouring former industrial property to create new, in-house spray polishing and foam-cutting facilities, plus new office and showroom spaces.”
