AUTHORITIES are searching for a gang of 30 yobs who surrounded a two police officers before throwing fireworks at their car.
The officers were stopped on Burlington Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, at 8pm on Sunday August 25, when they were surrounded by the group as they were sat in their car.
A number of the youths began shouting abuse at the officers and some threw fireworks at the car.
More police arrived a short time later and the youngsters fled from the scene.
Fortunately, the officers in the car were not injured during the incident.
It comes less than a week after a teenager threw a lit firework onto a bus on nearby Katherine Street.
As a result of the firework being thrown on the bus, a mother and her three-year-old son sustained minor injuries and were treated on the bus by a paramedic.
Inspector Lee Derbyshire, of GMP’s Tameside district, said: “This shocking incident comes less than a week after a teenage boy threw a firework on a bus, injuring a mother and her child.
“The stupidity being shown by those responsible, who seem to think that it is ok to throw fireworks at or near other human beings, is unbelievable.
“If this continues then it is only a matter of time before somebody gets seriously injured so it is important that we put a stop to this now.
“If you believe you have information that can help us find those responsible, then I would urge you to please contact police immediately.”
