A NIGHT was held in memory of a 17-year-old from Oldham, who died after a suspected drugs overdose at Leeds Festival.

More than 200 people packed out The Gate Inn, Diggle, to pay respects to Anya Buckley who died on August 24.

Police found the teenager at around 3.40am on Saturday at Bramham Park.

Close friend Archie Burke performs at the pub on Friday nights and wanted to try to raise funds for Anya's family.

On twitter he posted: "Can't believe what an amazing night tonight was, raised so much money for Anya's family and love every second I was up there, love to everyone who showed support and donated to my best friend."

Billy Royle tweeted: "Well done to @Archie Burke5 for raising well over £2,000 last night for Anya's funeral. Done everyone proud there."

Stephen Peach, landlord of the Gate Inn, said: "There must have been about 200 or 300 people in here and it was packed from wall to wall with friends and family.

"There were some tributes read out with family and friends and there were a few people crying and upset but we all got behind the family and a bucket was sent round and £2,400 was raised.

"The people were there from early evening until 12.30am and was really good.

"Archie was up on stage and he deserves a lot of credit as he is only a young lad and he organised it and wanted it to be a success."

A 17-year-old boy, also from Oldham, who was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs has since been released under investigation.
