COUNTRY life will be celebrated this weekend as the popular annual ploughing competition returns.

Farmers from Bolton and beyond will showcasing their rural skills to create straight neat furrows.

The competition will be held on Sunday, starting at 10am, at Brinsop Hall Farm, off Manchester Road, Westhoughton.

Blackrod town councillor and retired farmer, Graham Farrington, said: "I have been organising this competition for a few years now to raise money for Bolton Mountain Rescue.

"Ploughing competitions are quite popular now with a number being held in a few places."

He added: "Ploughing is a skill, it is not as easy as it looks and judges will be looking for for straight level furrows. People are invited to come and watch.

"We will have a raffle to support Bolton Mountain Rescue Service."

The competition raises in the region of a few hundred pounds.

It will run until about 2pm.
