A WAYWARD lorry created a storm on social media after attempting to enter a picturesque village which had recently been centre of a traffic drama.

Dobcross villagers were left reeling when a treasured monument in the village square toppled after being hit by an articulated lorry.

And frustrated householders took to social media urging the installation of new “no HGV" signs to keep huge vehicles out.

But in the aftermath of that problem, another giant truck tried to gain access to the village via Woods Lane.

Brian Hodgkinson, owner of the village store and sub postmaster, said: “The truck was trying to come through Dobcross Village around 7am.

“This one got half way up Woods Lane and then the driver must have used a bit of common sense and decided not to proceed further.

“He then reversed down Woods Lane. There must surely be a case for some very prominent signage advising HGV drivers not to attempt to come through the village.”

Cllr Max Woodvine visited the village after the latest incident, spoke to the lorry’s owners who apologised for this incident and said that they would make efforts to ensure other vehicles travelling to their site do not go via Dobcross village centre.
