A BRAVE lone cyclist has taken to social media to describe how he fought off an attack by rogue scooter riders.

The cyclist shot live footage of the attempted hijack by three youths riding two scooters at Chapel Road, Uppermill, at 7.30 pm Monday.

He said: “They followed me out of Uppermill and overtook me. They doubled back on Chapel Road then tried to run me off the road into the parked cars, clearly intent on robbing me.

“I managed to stay on my bike and got round them and got help from a man in a house.

“The bikers were waiting up the lane for me to come out - it was a dead end - but they did a runner when they saw there were now two us.”

And the cyclist appealed to locals: “If you have any information please let me know - these scumbags need stopping.”

A GMP spokesman said: “Our enquiries are ongoing but the three offenders on motorcycles demanded a passing cyclist dismount his vehicle.

“The cyclist was able to pull over and call the police and the offenders left the scene.”

Another post on Facebook claimed a few weeks ago in Greenfield two youngsters, one aged 12, were attacked by a gang carrying knives and one had a cycle stolen.

Villagers are urged to pass information onto friends/relatives and cyclists in the area warning of the dangers.
