OLDHAM'S own "calendar girls" have attended a glitzy launch of their raunchy but tasteful product.

Victorious Ladies held the event at Oldham's Blue Tiffin Restaurant.

The women led by Jeanette Sykes are aiming to raise more than £5,000 for the Royal Oldham Hospital's Victoria Unit, which treats people affected by cancer.

Several of the 17 ladies involved in the calendar have been treated at the specialist cancer unit, including instigator Jeanette Sykes, who credits the team with saving her life.

As well as most of the group, Oldham's deputy mayor Cllr Jenny Harrison was also among the group.

The event alone raised £2,014.40 towards their final target.

Calendars can be bought via the Facebook page Victorious Ladies 2020.

A GROUP of women affected by cancer have become scantily clad “calendar girls” in a bid to raise £5,000 for the Royal Oldham Hospital’s Victoria Unit.

Several of the 17 ladies have been treated at the specialist cancer unit, including instigator, Jeanette Sykes, who credits the team with saving her life.

Other members of the group - named Victorious Ladies 2020 - have relatives or friends who are or have been cancer sufferers.

Mother-of-two Jeanette, aged 53, was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago as a result of treatment to remove her gall bladder.

After a lump was discovered in her right breast she had two major operations, and underwent a course of chemotherapy.

It was later that she met other women in a similar situation at Oldham Cancer Support group’s meeting place in Failsworth.

When Jeanette reached the milestone of five years since her diagnosis she came up with the idea for the calendar and suggested it to her group of friends.

“I want to show that there is life after cancer, by highlighting the wonderful work they do at the Victoria Unit,” she said.

“We’re selling raffle tickets and we’ve already raised the £700 needed to produce the calendar. Advance orders for the calendar are coming in and we are hoping we can raised £5,000 for the unit.”

The photo-shoot by local photographer Karen Berry took place at Daisy Nook Garden Centre.

Jeanette added: “The photos are very tasteful and we had a lot fun doing it.”

Calendars can be ordered via the group’s Facebook page Victorious Ladies 2020.
