EMMERDALE star Sammy Winward will be sharing her acting secrets in a masterclass for young people hoping to break into the television industry.

The former Turton School pupil, best known for playing the role of Katie Sugden in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale from 2001 to 2015, will be helping aspiring actors be fully prepared for going on "set".

More recently Sammy has starred in ITV dramas Prey and Fearless.

And she will start on a new powerful film, No Man's Land in the coming weeks, in which Sammy plays the former partner of a ex-soldier suffering from PTSD.

She will hold her Acting for TV workshop for young people aged seven-to-18-years-old next month.

"My aim is to pass on knowledge gained from my experiences to the next generation of budding actors who would like a career in acting," said Sammy, "I was cast as Katie in Emmerdale at the age of 15 and can remember how nervous I was on my first day.

"I hope to build children’s confidence by teaching them terminology, on set etiquette, script work and audition techniques in hope that one day they themselves will have a career in acting."

She added: "I want to give back to the children of my local area as I only wish I had experienced such a workshop before my first day."

Sammy has previously taken time out to inspire and help young people.

She together with Roxy Shahidi delivered a TV workshop at Stagecoach Performing Arts Bolton.

Sammy, who will be playing Cinderella in pantomime this Christmas, said: "I really enjoy doing this and it is lovely to give something back.

"It fits in with my acting and in the workshops I get to see some very talented young people."

She added: "The feedback I get is so lovely, they always leave with a smile on their face."

In her "Sammy Winward Workshop", Sammy will be exploring audition techniques, idents — chat to camera —, improvisation, scene study and production etiquette.

"I will be explaining everything about television, what I didn't know when I first arrived on set," said Sammy.

There will also be a question and answer session.

The masterclass takes place on Sunday, October 27, at Bury Parish Church Hall There will be two session, one for children aged seven-to-11 and for those aged 12-18. Cost is £25.
