A DRIVER has been taken to hospital after smashing into the central reservation of the M62

The M62 is closed westbound between junction 22 (Saddleworth) and junction 21 (Minrow/Shaw).

All emergency services are in attendance and Highways England are in attendance to assist with traffic management and carriageway clear up.

The eastbound carriageway has been blocked for over an hour due to the attendance of an air ambulance however traffic is now running in lanes one and two. Lanes three and four remain closed due to damage caused from this collision.

There are delays of 60 minutes above usual journey times approaching the incident in both directions.

A spokesman for North West Motorway Police said: "The RTC on the M62 has been handed over to

Highways England for repairs and recovery.

"Westbound remains closed at present.

"Just the driver on board who has survived and taken to hospital with injuries. A combination of poor driving and wet weather being the cause."

Diversions are signed by the hollow diamond diversion symbol.

For traffic approaching the delays locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and you may wish to re-route or delay your journey.
