TEACHER, explorer and fundraiser Steve Hill in the running to be crowned Teacher of the Year at a glitzy ceremony soon.

Parents at St Joseph's RC Primary School in Shaw have nominated the 47-year-old for the accolade in the Educate Awards, which take place at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on November 15.

There will be hundreds of people at the black-tie event as schools and professionals vie for honours in 21 categories of the award.

As well as inspiring his Year 6 pupils consistently, Steve has also raised more than £90,000 for numerous charities over the last 10 years with his exploits which have seen him climb

Mount Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, trek through the Sahara Desert, climb Mount Elbrus, trek through the Arctic and through the jungles of Borneo, climb Mount Kinabalu, trek to Mount Everest Base Camp and then complete the Tenzing Hillary Mount Everest Marathon.

He's also completed the North Pole Marathon, the Petra Desert Marathon, the Uganda Marathon, the Amazon Jungle Ultra Marathon and the Arctic Ice Ultra Marathon.
