MORE than a hundred people travelled across the country to attend the funeral of a Warrington war veteran who died at the age of 103.
Sid Wilson, a decorated war veteran from Cinnamon Brow, risked his life to serve his country.
The granddad-of-one, served in the air force for four-and-a-half years after joining the volunteer reserve aged 23.
He was awarded a number of medals for his service with the air force.
Sid carried out many roles during his time with the RAF including the maintenance of machine guns and the flying panel – spending many hours inside spitfire planes.
The majority of Sid’s time in the air force was spent abroad before returning home in 1944.
He sadly passed away on Saturday, September 21 and his friend Julie Francis along with his granddaughter Rebecca organised a military funeral for the veteran.
They put out an appeal for serving and past soldiers to attend as well as pipers, standard bearers and a bugler.
Around 120 people turned up at Walton Lea Crematorium to say farewell to Sid.
