Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious crash left a driver fighting for his life.

Officers were called to reports of a collision on Burnley Lane in Chadderton shortly after 8:30pm on Friday October 18.

A grey Vauxhall Antara is believed to have hit a black Mercedes-Benz E200 close to the Parkway junction.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 57-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Mercedes was uninjured, and remained at the scene to speak with officers. No arrests have been made.

Police Constable Phil Drummond, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The driver of the Vauxhall remains in a critical condition and we have specially trained officers supporting his family at this difficult time.

“This collision happened on a busy stretch of road so I am hoping there will be a number of witnesses that can assist with our enquiries.

“If you witnessed the incident or have any CCTV or dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation, please get in touch.”
