ALMOST 250 children at a Shaw primary school were treated to a flying visit from an RAF Puma helicopter when it landed on field nearby.
The spectacular event was set up by St Joseph's RC Primary School deputy headteacher Steve Hill.
One of Steve's pals, Andy Green is Squadron Leader Andy Green from 230 Squadron, based at RAF Benson.
Oldham man Andy, 36, offered to drop by for the surprise visit when his flying schedule took him on a flight path right over the school.
Steve said: "Andy last visited the school in a helicopter six year ago and when he offered to do it again, we thought would be a great treat for the children.
"We gathered them outside with their coats on without telling them why, and they thrilled when the helicopter landed in the field nearby. It was a spectacular event.
"It was of special significance because Andy was brought up in the Oldham area."
