BUS driver’s son and Oldham Council leader Sean Fielding has urged the public to voice their views on bus services in Oldham through a public consultation.

People have until January 8, to submit their views, as council and transport chiefs bid to drive up bus usage across the borough.

Cllr Fielding said that “buses are a vital part of everyday life and the public transport network”.

He went on: “Thousands of people hop on them every day, but unfortunately the number of residents using buses is falling both locally and nationally.

“To increase usage and improve the service for local people we’re inviting everyone across Oldham to voice their views through a consultation on how they think buses should be run in their local area.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a regular bus passenger or rarely use the bus, everyone’s views are important and will inform a future decision on how your buses are run in Oldham.

Cllr Fielding wants to end the practice of Greater Manchester bus companies deciding their own routes, timetables, tickets and standards.

The public can have their say by visiting the consultation page online at www.gmconsult.org Consultation documents and the proposals are available at libraries and council buildings across our borough or the public can contact gmbusconsultation@greatermancester-ca.gov.uk or call 0161 244 1100.
