A SPECTACULAR remembrance display has taken pride of place outside a Bolton residential home as the town prepares to remember those who have sacrificed their lives in service to their country.

Staff and service users at Farnworth based Wilfred Geere have created the display which features poppies, wooden silhouettes and a plane propeller.

Bolton Council run Wilfred Geere is a residential care home that provides short term respite care for people who are usually cared for at home and also offers beds and support for dementia patients who have recently been discharged from hospital.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Adult Services and its armed forces champion, n said:“This is a remarkable effort from everyone involved at Wilfred Geere.

"At this time of year, the whole Bolton community comes together to mark Armistice Day. It is essential that our care home residents have the opportunity to take part in the commemorations.”

Bolton Town Centre Remembrance Service will take place on Sunday at 10.40am in Victoria Square.There will be services throughout Bolton:

Astley Bridge: Starting at the British Legion Club, Belmont Road at 9.30am a parade will march to St Paul’s Church, Newnham Street, for the Remembrance Service at 10.30am. A service will also take place at Astley Bridge Baptist Church, Eden Street at 10.45am.

Blackrod: A service will take place at 2.15pm at the war memorial in Blackrod Cemetery. This will be followed by the parade to St Katharine’s Church for the Service of Remembrance at 3pm.

Bromley Cross: A service will take place at Dunscar War Memorial at 10.30am.

Farnworth: A parade will march from Market Street, outside Home Bargains, at 10.30am to the war memorial for a service.

Horwich: The town mayor will lay a wreath at the Locomotive Estate War Memorial at 11am. Followed by a parade at 11.40am from outside the RMI Club, Ramsbottom Road, for a service at the Garden of Remembrance at 12.15pm.

Kearsley: A parade will gather at Kearsley Cricket Club, to march to the war memorial at 9.30am. A service will take place at St Stephens Church at 10.15am.

Little Lever: A service will take place outside a memorial following a parade at 10.30am.

Westhoughton: A parade will leave St Bartholomew’s Primary School 9.40am to go to the Parish Church of St Bartholomew. A service will take place at 10am and at 11am there will be a service at the memorial.
