POLICE are appealing for information after an elderly man died in a horror motorway crash.

At around 5.30pm on Tuesday, October 29, officers were called to the M62 Westbound to reports of a collision.

GMP’s Serious Investigation Unit has since established that a Chevrolet Matiz car was travelling along the M62 exit close to Birch Services when it collided with a sign.

The driver of the car – an 81-year-old man – was taken to hospital but despite best efforts from medical staff sadly died two days later.

PC Philip Shaw, of GMP’s Serious Investigation Collision Unit, said: “First and foremost I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the man’s loved ones at what must be an incredibly sad and difficult time.

“I want to assure them that we are working hard to establish exactly what happened and provide answers.

“I appreciate that it has been a few days since the incident but I am making a direct appeal to the public in the hope that someone may have vital answers. Did you see the Chevrolet Matiz car prior to the collision? If so, or you have any information that you think could assist us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
