Here's our list of five activities you can get involved with.

THURSDAY, November 14, Oldham Library, 7pm.

Join bestselling Northern author Jacqueline Ward at the Oldham Library, in Greaves Street, to celebrate the launch of her new book, How to Play Dead.

The plot resolves around Ria Taylor, a fictional character whose job is to be a wife, a mother and the last line of support for women who have been outcasted by their husbands.

But, in one night everything changes and Ria receives a message that turns her into the potential victim in a complex tale.

Entry is £7 which also includes either a Fish and Chip Supper or a veg option.

MONDAY, November 18, Sholver and Moorside Community Centre, 11am to 1pm

Action Together is hosting a Community Explorer Gathering that will aim to bring together and connect volunteers and community leaders and groups. This would be a chance for locals to network with community representatives and learn how they can work together for the benefit of their localities. Entry is free.

SATURDAY, November 16, Parliament Square, 11am to 4pm.

The word is out that Santa will be paying a visit to Oldham, and he’s bringing his reindeer! Take the family to meet him this weekend. Additional entertainment such as live music and street theatre will also be on, starting from 11am. Entry is free.

TUESDAY, November 19, Oldham Library, 1pm to 3pm.

Do you own a restaurant, café or a catering service? Find out how you can increase your food hygiene score and improve your business by going to this course organised by GM Regulatory Centre of Excellence. Talk to food hygiene experts, discuss your business with local environmental health officers and receive a document certifying your attendance and interest in becoming more customer friendly.

FRIDAY, November 15, 58 George Street, 7pm.

If you’re over 50, Age UK Oldham and George Street Chapel are putting on an event just for you this Friday! Join other like-minded people for an evening of drinks, laughs and leisure. Award-winning singers Shaun Sloan and Dani Raye will ensure that guests have an amazing time throughout the night. Kick it off with a free glass of wine and continue the fun on the licensed bar. Entry per person is £9.95.
