A SUSPECTED stolen van was driven into the front of a Chinese restaurant in an attempted burglary.

The suspected stolen Ford Transit was ploughed into the shutters of Mei's Garden on Warrington Road, Rainhill causing "significant damage".

The attempt to gain access to the premises was unsuccessful and the van was driven off and later found on Arnside Road.

Police are appealing for information following the incident which took place in the early hours of Sunday this week (November 10).

The vehicle has been forensically seized for further enquiries.

It is believed the van had been stolen from Huyton earlier that day.

Enquiries are ongoing to trace the occupant of the vehicle and establish the circumstances.

St Helens Sergeant Steve Street said: "We are looking to establish exactly what happened, so if you saw or heard anything, were passing or hold CCTV or dashcam footage, let us know.

"This incident has caused significant damage to a local business, and all the stress and inconvenience that this will bring. We're determined to find those responsible and put them before the courts."
